Summary

In 10 years of existence, the UEMF has established itself at national and international level as a platform for dialogue and sharing between residents of the Mediterranean and Africa.
Like the Al Quarawiyin University founded in Fez in 859, the UEMF shares and exports the values of openness and multiculturalism, which have enabled it to welcome eminent professors and personalities, as well as a community students and teacher-researchers from around forty countries.
The territorial commitment of the UEMF has enabled local partners to take ownership of the eco-campus project from its inception and to support it in all its phases:
-construction with modern architecture respecting the history of Fez, its heritage, the environment and biodiversity
-definition of training courses and research topics in response to local, national and regional needs
The excellence of human resources has made it possible to obtain numerous competitive funding to carry out academic projects (Agritech, Smart Fès Factory, artificial intelligence, architecture & design, etc.), and international mobility. The results have resulted in hundreds of job creations, startups, and publications in indexed journals.
Several prizes and labels have been awarded to the UEMF by national and international organizations: UfM, COP22, Responsible Innovation (AUF), Responsible Campus of the Year (MESRI France), Certificate of Excellence and Regional Prize for Equality professional women-men (Morocco), ZAIRI prize in Digital Transformation (UAE)
Two UEMF-ICESCO chairs are active in the fields of “women and science” and “arts, sciences and civilizations.

IMPACT STORY

Impacting lifes

The eco campus has a social responsibility to promote access to its training programs for a greater number of students through several types of scholarships dedicated in particular to brilliant students from backgrounds in modest incomes and also to students from sub-Saharan Africa within the framework of south-south cooperation.
Testimony of a parent: “I work in a small hotel in a village in southern Morocco and my means are limited. My son is brilliant but after several unsuccessful applications, an NGO contacted us and submitted the file to the UEMF where he was admitted with a full scholarship covering study costs, accommodation and food »
Is it possible to become the responsible eco-campus of the year while competing with European establishments and Grandes Ecoles? Or to build the Fes Smart Factory (FSF) to encourage entrepreneurship, the creation of startups and support local businesses to access industry 4.0? Or to place some researchers at the top of the best national and African scientists? or to be the leading university in digital transformation in the MENA zone?
The answer is YES for the UEMF which, with the support of partner NGOs, welcomes young girls from rural areas to its eco-campus (equal opportunity), goes to schools to encourage girls to move towards sciences, offers the same salaries for its female staff with equal skills with men, promotes women to positions of responsibility, raises awareness in its community against all types of violence, offers its community the conditions for good living and well-being.

LEARNINGS

Lessons learned

Our goal is not to train only experts who master the most modern knowledge and techniques and technologies, but rather to train citizens aware of their rights, their duties and imbued with universal and multidimensional values in terms of openness. , to live together, to know how to be, to think critically and to respect others and the environment. Our laureates are aware of the challenges to be overcome with solidarity, courage and tenacity and are aware of the issues raised by the various transitions: energy, climate, digital, societal, geopolitical, etc. In addition, all our students have training throughout their schooling. on “soft-skills, study skills, life-skills, professional skills and entrepreneurial skills”.
The university has retained 7 transversal pillars constituting the multidimensional Euromed profile: multilingualism, social responsibility, entrepreneurship, sustainable development, mobility, digital environment and multiculturalism.

Sustainable development is integrated into the teaching of all disciplines so that all graduates have the knowledge necessary to become actors of sustainable development, in their personal and professional lives. Our students contribute to the social and environmental responsibility approach of the campus, particularly in the context of their work or the activities of their clubs.
Teacher-researchers use innovative pedagogies based on initiative, coaching, problem solving, competency approach, flipped classroom, project management, simulation, case studies, etc.
UEMF places scientific and technical research as well as innovation and entrepreneurship at the heart of its development strategy. Modern technological platforms for practical work and research are available to learners, researchers and partners.

FUTURE PLANS

What's coming?

The main lesson of our approach is that education is essential to promote the SDGs. It is a question in the future of continuing our adventure by widening the fields of training and research offered, and by registering within the framework of the new Moroccan Development Model by equipping learners with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes. they need to become agents of change.
These projects will require the extension of the eco-campus from 40 to 100 ha and will be carried out in compliance with the responsible campus charter: control and limitation of the direct environmental impacts of the campus and conduct of environmental audits.
We share the ambition of our President Pr Bousmina, founder of our eco-campus and world-renowned scientist, to make UEMF a major player in the production of highly qualified human capital for the creation of knowledge, know-how and wealth through innovation and entrepreneurship.
The ambitions of the UEMF for 2035 in Euro-Mediterranean-Africa (EMA) area:
1. A high place for the mixing of cultures.
2. A major think-tank on transitions questions concerning the EMA.
3. Top 10 University in Africa for training in:
Political and legal sciences;
Digital engineering and artificial intelligence;
Architecture;
Engineering: civil, mechanical, ICT and biomed-tech.
4. 1st University in Morocco in terms of:
Publications and patents by number of teacher-researchers;
