Together with his colleagues, Hannes has co-shaped St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences (STPUAS) for more many years. He promoted the concept of a university that serves as an Engaged Platform for Collaborative Innovation together with Gabriele Permoser. Since STPUAS highlighted this idea as a central strategic goal in 2017, the implementation has been worked on intensively and with considerable success.
Hannes has successfully co-initiated manifold activities to support students, staff and innovation ecosystems on regional, national and European levels such as the Creative Pre-Incubator, SMARTUP, the Digital Makers Hub, the Open Innovation Association N’Cyan and other collaboration with various stakeholders across the knowledge square of education, research, innovation and service with and for society. Under his responsibility, STPUAS was not only able to position itself as a Europe-wide recognized good practice for a comparatively small, but flexible and innovative, regionally anchored and internationally well-connected engaged and entrepreneurial university, but was able to more than double the acquisition of third-party funding for research and knowledge transfer in just a few years as well. As founding director of the Institute for Creative\Media/Technologies he has pushed interdisciplinary, cross-sector collaboration for many years and successfully supported the STEAM-approach integrating arts and creative technologies into science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Hannes co-initiated E³UDRES², the Engaged and Entrepreneurial European University as Driver for European Smart and Sustainable Regions, which he has headed as Lead Coordinator since 2020, as well as the E³UDRES² Entrepreneurship and Innovation Network E.I.N.S.
