Summary

Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT) has a worldwide unique competency to represent, map and SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTE THE ENTIRE FUNNEL from the idea to successful scaling with a possible exit to create real sustainable impact into society and economy. The basic teaching reaching out to all faculties & research labs, together with various entrepreneurial qualification programs, form a stable foundation which is supplemented by a resilient national and international entrepreneurial ecosystem. Expansion and sustainable anchoring of start-up activities for bundling and efficient use of start-up-related resources in Eastern Bavaria created positive economic effects. DIT networks with founding-relevant, regional partners, such as institutions, companies, and associations. Our worldwide unique competence network accompanies founders already during their studies at DIT, during the start-up phase through accelerating up to scaling their ventures. Our ecosystem, combining and bundling DIT Start-up Campus, the DIT Entrepreneurial Institute to the unique Bavarian Innovation Transformation Center Oberschneiding with the Silicon Valley School (Scale-up School), transformation labs and exclusive PreSeed, Seed, VC partners, and global ecosystem covers the entire spectrum in depth. We act in and work with a resilient ecosystem consisting of a) DIT R&D labs plus 13 Technology Transfer Campuses (TTC), b) industrial partners and companies, c) start-up centres, in particular the Digital Start-up Centres (in Bavaria and beyond) and d) academic, entrepreneurial, and scaling partners with Silicon Valley top schools & institutes. Transformation to impact economy and society is DNA of DIT.

IMPACT STORY

Impacting lifes

After studying at DIT, Robert, Sebastian and Michael founded their company Easy2Parts GmbH in 2019. DIT Startup Campus supported the team with networking and funding opportunities. The team settled in the Deggendorf Innovations Technology Campus co-working space. They continued towards financing maturity and won investors. After successfully completing SVP the company enhanced further. It employs 13 people, uses new office space and has several large companies as customers for its AI supported platform for smart procurement of production parts. In 2022, the venture team founded a 2nd company that makes components purchase wit AI even more unique.
Matured Company as b-plus, established in the Bavarian market, states: "After successfully participating in the SVP and the subsequent pitches, the start-up b-plus automotive GmbH was awarded the innovation prize of the city of Deggendorf for the product 'Connectivity solution for vehicle test fleets', which faster development cycles in automotive pre-development. The goal for the future is to always be one step ahead in order to overcome the hurdles of tomorrow.” (Josef Behammer, CEO of b-plus automotive GmbH). Karl Fuchs, Managing Director T.CON GmbH & Co. KG: “We took part in the SVP several times with different teams. The participants learned which steps and which content is necessary to bring an idea to market maturity. Care is taken to think big and scale as well as possible. The impulses in our organization initiated by the program have promoted our positive company development in the long term.” This proves the success of DIT funnel.

LEARNINGS

Lessons learned

Comprehensive success in the field of entrepreneurship is only possible if all individual skills and competencies that support founders and students and employees who want to found a company are comprehensively bundled. Only this common attraction combines the individual ecosystem components into a unique funnel. In the next step, this funnel will be expanded to the “DIT 360-degree founder ecosystem”.

Our Top 10 list for successful ventures:
1. No silos -> Collaborating ecosystem is crucial.
2. Idea to scale is a profession -> Just work with the best.
3. Don’t just invite People to the party - Let them dance.
4. Never hide - Tell everybody and listen.
5. Success happens on the street – Please leave your high-tech lab! Get unique insights into the market not just the technology.
6. Your team is everything – A great innovation and a mediocre team will fail – a mediocre innovation and a great team will succeed.
7. Trust science – Be almost fanatically disciplined and follow the scientific validated path towards impact readiness.
8. Check your Ego at the front door – If you want to walk into your customers shoes – take off your own.
9. Do not sell your product, understand your customers.
10. If you ask for money, you will get advice – If you ask for advice, you will get money.

FUTURE PLANS

What's coming?

With the strategic creation of Venture Studio Funds, the entire ecosystem available and accessible for venture teams grows into a whole new dimension. Next to the already established and successfully proven Silicon Valley Program with its Design Transformation Process, the access to targeted funding provides the often-crucial key success factor for scaling up. Strategically this generates a four-way win-win situation for the 1) Venture Teams, 2) investors, 3) DIT itself and 4) the surrounding and supporting industry and economy.
Targeted financing creates opportunities for exponential growth. Targeted execution is guaranteed through the 1:1-mentoring (Design Transformation Process), provided by world-leading experts / mentors. Timely access to funding proves to be the missing cornerstone in successfully scaling up and targeted execution. Disrupting existing and creating new markets requires a bullet-proof strategic plan, contribution of key resources (surrounding industry partners) and access to funding! The setup of a Venture Studio System is the third step in finalizing a unique venture ecosystem.
The significant enrichment of the entire DIT Founders ecosystem through the key component of smart funding capabilities makes it even more attractive for students and founders to pursue their entrepreneurial drive and to generate the next success story. Access to Silicon Valley School and eliminating the burden of funding stipulates entrepreneurial behaviour! Grow in all regions of Germany and create a beachhead studio in the Valley itself!
