Summary

I've been fascinated by experimentation, exploration, and the creation of new things since I was a child. I used to have an entirely different viewpoint than everyone else. This perspective has led me to the field of entrepreneurship, where I can not only fulfill my own dreams but also assist others in achieving theirs.
I've now been living that dream for 20 years, having mentored several tech startups. As a result, I've developed a strong desire to inspire and support others in their pursuit of technology-driven entrepreneurship and to provide them with the support I lacked when I launched my first startup.

The startups I mentored grew to a valuation of over 350 million and created over 2000 job opportunities. I am proud of what they have accomplished.

Founded the first startup accelerator programme in 2019 and has completed four cohorts since then. Awarded three times for obtaining extramural funding from government & non government bodies.

Thousands of students have been able to fly high in the world of entrepreneurial opportunities thanks to entrepreneurial ecosystem created by Chitkara Innovation Incubator Foundation (CIIF), Chitkara University. My job is to not only ignite their dreams, but also to mentor and support them throughout their journey from ideation to commercialization. The future of India is dependent on its future entrepreneurs. My life is now consumed in exploring opportunities to capture diversity and innovative ideas to bring the best ideas into this world.

Acknowledgements

Great things happen to great oranisations. Chitkara University is no exception. The Chitkara Innovation Incubator Foundation (CIIF) can only exist at Chitkara University. Chitkara University embarked on its entrepreneurial journey when no one else in the region had. The path was neither easy nor straight. Only the tenacity and determination of its founders have kept it Going. Chitkara University is a truly entrepreneurial university.

Chitkara University deserves full credit for everything I've accomplished here. Because whatever I've accomplished was not done by me; it was the Chitkara University ecosystem that inspired me to do so. I'd also like to thank Chitkara University's great leaders and visionary founders, Dr. Ashok K. Chitkara, our Chancellor Sir, and Dr. Madhu Chitkara, our Pro-Chancellor Mam, who have always motivated and inspired us to do our best. Most importantly, I want to thank Mr. Mohit Chitkara, Vice President of the Chitkara Educational Trust and Director of the CIIF, for leading us from the front. My heartfelt gratitude goes to Dr. Archana Mantri, our Vice Chancellor Mam, for paving the way and ensuring the university's continued support for entrepreneurship.

Finally, and most importantly, I'd like to thank the incredible Chitkara Innovation Incubator Foundation team (CIIF). I've never worked with such a remarkable group of people, and nothing we've accomplished here would have been possible without their tireless, impact-driven efforts.

IMPACT STORY

Impacting lifes

I'd like to highlight one of the many stories that can be told about our startup community:

Riddhish was working as a scientist prior to joining the Chitkara Innovation Incubator Foundation (CIIF). He's from a state where many farmers commit suicide each year. They rely heavily on agricultural output for a living, which is also dependent on the availability of groundwater resources to carry out agricultural operations, and they lack the technology to conduct systematic groundwater targeting, prospecting, and exploration.

With an aim of helping these farmers he co-founded a venture, Aumsat Technologies and then embarked on a university-supported journey that saw him create a lab-scale prototype.

He took part in the six-month incubation programme of the Chitkara Innovation Incubator Foundation (CIIF) and received prototype funding from CIIF, Chitkara University, as well as mentorship.

He created cutting-edge, satellite-derived analytics with the help of the CIIF team to solve complex problems related to groundwater exploration, river water quality monitoring, and pipeline water leak detection in cities.

"I have not seen such an incubator anywhere else in the world where people are so receptive to your ideas and always eager to help you." he said.

The United Nations World Food Programme recently named him one of the Top 7 Global Startups (WFP).

Aumsat Technologies LLP has recently been awarded the prestigious Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) Space Excellence Award 2022 for developing earth observation applications for integrated water management.

LEARNINGS

Lessons learned

I'd like to highlight four unexpected discoveries:

1. Entrepreneurship is a state of mind, not a profession.
Whatever you do or where you are, approaching it with an entrepreneurial mindset will make you more efficient and effective, with far superior results.

2. Entrepreneurs who are conscientious: Entrepreneurship is all about giving. It is not so much about what you can take from the world as it is about what you can give to the world. We need to raise a generation of responsible business owners who want to give back to society.

3. Entrepreneurs do not have problems:
Yes, it is correct. It's not as if entrepreneurs don't face challenges. They don't seem to become a part of the problem. They become observers and attempt to solve the problem.

4. Entrepreneurs as perfectionist:
Entrepreneurs are attempting to create perfect solutions for an imperfect world. No system is perfect, and no solution can be perfect either. This world is imperfect, and entrepreneurs must resist the perfectionist myth.
Chitkara Innovation Incubator Foundation (CIIF), Chitkara University, I believe, has succeeded as a result of this approach, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity and the university's foresight in adopting this approach.

FUTURE PLANS

What's coming?

We are on a mission to increase the productivity of our ecosystem by connecting grassroots innovators with the right opportunities. We are also putting significant effort into a new community innovation programme to support grassroots community-based innovations and provide advanced tools and techniques to community innovators.

We are developing programmes to engage a large number of Atal Tinkering Labs and Indian high schools in order to catch them while they are still young. A programme like this will aid in the development of a more entrepreneurial generation. We will also assist Indian high schools in developing and implementing student innovation and entrepreneurship programmes. In doing so, we hope to broaden the impact we can have by including those who do not currently have access to CIIF's incubation facilities and may never incubate at CIIF.

2023 will be an exciting year for CIIF Startups and Chitkara University as a whole as we work to develop a future-ready generation of entrepreneurs.
